The surviving founding members gather together on the 40th Anniversary.
On September 9, 1979, twenty-two people met at the home of Melvin Payne to discuss the importance of establishing a new church in Newnan. On December 30, 1979 thirty-eight charter members voted to purchase land on Smokey Road and, on January 1980, they voted to name the church Westside Baptist Church.

In 2008, God called Alton Midgett Jr to assume the role of co-pastor of Westside Baptist Church. For several years both Pastor Midgett and Dr. Payne worked together to ensure that Westside would thrive long into the future. In 2016, Pastor Midgett assumed the mantle of Senior Pastor and Pastor Payne was bestowed with the title of Pastor Emeritus.
